DRIVERS have been told to expect further delays at a traffic hotspot while further maintenance is carried out.

Commuters will face further problems on Bath Road, near the junction with Berkley Avenue, over the coming days to allow Thames Water to continue working on the network.

Repairs have already seen the area affected for a period of two weeks and the water firm said it made sense to do more work while the road was dug up and temporary traffic lights were in place.

A spokesman said: "Our work will continue into next week to enable us to carry out extra work on our water main to reduce the risk of further leaks on that section.

"It makes sense for us to do this while we have the road dug up and the temporary traffic lights in place. We are sorry for any ongoing disruption."

The previous repair job was an essential piece of maintenance work to fix two leaking pipes on Bath Road.

A network of old pipes are believed to have struggled during the recent freezing temperature, but the water company insisted the latest batch of maintenance was not linked to previous works.

Thames Water’s Tom Hutchinson said: “We are sorry for any hold-ups our work causes and we know road users will be frustrated to see us working once again on the Bath Road."
