A DRIVER had a lucky escape after a convertible car flipped over before crashing into a row of bushes on a busy road.

Police, paramedics and fire crews all rushed to the incident, at the A4 near Theale, shortly after 2pm today.

Thames Valley Police said the driver of a black BMW, a man, had a 'lucky escape'.

A picture shows the wrecked vehicle being recovered from the shrubbery.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, the man had already left his vehicle. He was dazed and struggled to recall what had happened.

An air ambulance was on standby but medical staff deemed his injuries to be treatable at the scene.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 14.01 with the caller reporting a car had left the road, rolled over and ended up in a ditch of the A4, Bath Road near the roundabout with the A340.

"The driver was a male, who had got himself out of the vehicle but appeared to have little recollection of what happened and was suffering facial, chest and lower leg injuries.

"His injuries were not thought to be too serious as the ambulance crew and paramedic team leader at the scene did not request additional support from the Thames Valley Air Ambulance emergency response vehicle, which was available."

The man was taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital for further treatment.
