PEOPLE planning to pass through Caversham on the River Thames are being advised to moor up during the particularly strong currents.
A red board strong stream warning has been issued by the Environment Agency (EA) between Caversham Lock and Sonning Lock due to the fast flow of the water between these two points.
A spokesperson for the EA said the river is not currently closed, but boats are advised to find a safe mooring and not to navigate down the Thames around Caversham.
A red board warning advises users of all boats, powered and non-powered, not to navigate because the strong flows make it difficult and dangerous.
People in hire boats arriving at a lock where these boards are displayed should stop immediately and contact their hire boat operator to ask for instructions.
Red warnings are also currently in place between Goring Lock and Whitchurch Lock, and yellow 'stream decreasing' warnings are in place between Whitchurch lock and Blake's Lock.
