AN ELDERLY man was befriended and robbed inside a bank, it has emerged.

The 94-year-old victim was struggling to use a cash machine inside Barclays Bank in Parkway Shopping Centre, Newbury.

A thief then approached the OAP and offered to help him.

However, when the elderly man left the bank on March 29, he noticed his wallet, with £200 inside, had vanished.

When he checked his account, he discovered a further £940 had been withdrawn.

A police spokesman said: "The victim, a 94-year-old man, entered Barclays Bank in Parkway Shopping Centre. He was struggling to use a cash machine and another man offered to help him.

"After leaving, the elderly gentleman noticed that his wallet, with £200 inside, was missing and returned to the bank. On checking his account, £940 had been withdrawn."

Thames Valley Police released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to.

They believe he could hold vital information.

Police constable Nicholas Wilkinson, said: "I am keen to speak to the man in this CCTV image as he may have information which is vital to our investigation.
