POLICE have launched an arson investigation after a large number of cars were set on fire in the early hours.

Firefighters attended Cutbush Lane in Shinfield at around 4.15am on Thursday after reports that 10 cars were on fire.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "Officers attended the scene along with the fire service.

"It is believed that arson was the cause of the incident.

"Nobody was hurt and an investigation into the incident is taking place. No arrests have yet been made.

"Anyone with any details is asked to call the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 101."

Crews from Wokingham Road and Whitley Wood attended the blaze, but refused to give any further details.

A Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: "At 3.02am on Thursday firefighters were called to a vehicle fire at a car park in Cutbush Lane in Shinfield.

"Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Whitley Wood and Wokingham Road Fire Stations were sent to the scene.

"Upon arrival firefighters found several vehicles on fire. Three firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using two hose reels.

"Crews were on the scene for approximately one hour before handing the incident over to Thames Valley Police."
