ELDERLY and disabled shoppers were given the chance to stock up on festive goodies in the town centre on Monday evening.
Reading Borough Council’s annual shopping trip is organised with the help of the British Red Cross and offers discounts on a range of items.
As well as reduced rates on Christmas presents, guests enjoyed festive treats by tucking into mince pies and mulled wine.
Councillor Rachel Eden, lead member for Adult Social Care, said: “Reading Special Shopping Evening is invaluable for many elderly and disabled people and is a special chance to enjoy our town centre with a bit of extra help and a lot of extra fun.
“This is a friendly town and this is another way our community comes together to make our town welcoming to everyone.
“It is also a great opportunity to get in the Christmas mood.”
Mayor Rose Williams added: “Reading Special Shopping Evening is a much loved annual event.
“I am delighted that so many Reading stores were involved in this special evening by offering assistance and promotions.
“A big thank you also needs to go to all the retailers and volunteers who support us with this event
