JAAP STAM'S two-match winning run came to an abrupt halt as pace-setters Wolverhampton Wanderers secured a 2-0 win at the Madejski Stadium.
Goals from Ivan Cavaleiro and Matt Doherty put Wolves back at the of the Championship table, as Reading failed to beat the imposing John Ruddy on a dank afternoon.
Cavaleiro left Vito Mannone on the floor as he rounded the Royals keeper to put the away team in the lead after just 16 minutes.
John Swift saw a ranged effort tipped onto the post and Mo Barrow could have given Royals an early lead after charging at a clearance from Ruddy which rebounded wide.
Wolves' first win at the Madejski Stadium since 2005 was wrapped up by Doherty's late strike.
Yann Kermorgant made his first start of the campaign after signing a new deal with the club earlier this month, but he was kept at bay until he made way for Sone Aluko an hour into the game.
