KATIE Hopkins is set to speak at the University of Reading as part of her 'Stand Strong' tour.

The Apprentice contestant turned writer and commentator is in the midst of a month long journey around the country, stopping off at schools and universities to lead debates on free speech and the media.

At 10am on November 23 in the Van Emden Lecutre Theatre, Mrs Hopkins will address the university's Free Thought society.

Jack Gillum, the group's president, wrote: “RU Free Thought believes in debating ideas rather than silencing them. As a society, we exist for people of all political parties and none to come together and debate the political issues of the day in a friendly environment.

“Katie’s 'Stand Stronger' tour provides an opportunity for participants to look at the information we are fed, to challenge the views we hold and to understand opinions are never right or wrong. We don’t have to agree to get along. We can agree to differ.”

Mrs Hopkins has a long track record of delighting certain audiences and upsetting others.

While some congratulate her for speaking candidly on issues such as immigration and religion, other views have landed her in trouble.

She was fired from her role at LBC after calling for a 'final solution' following the Manchester Arena bombing, in rhetoric that uncannily mirrored how Nazi officials spoke of exterminating Jews.

Mrs Hopkins has also been called out for supporting convicted sexual abuser Adam Johnson and US Senate candidate Roy Moore, who denies several accusations of sexual misconduct with minors.

The Mail Online columnist Tweeted that Moore's 'accuser should be ashamed' and that she made women look 'weak'.

Mrs Hopkins is set to speak in a lecture hall in the Edith Morley building, named after the women's rights champion who became the first university-level female professor when she joined Reading's English department in 1908.

External speaker approval has not yet been granted by the University, which has been contacted for comment.
