SONE Aluko has been credited with Reading FC’s third goal against Nottingham Forest.

It is the 28-year-old forward’s first for the club following his club-record move from Fulham in the summer.

It was originally recorded as an own goal by Forest keeper Jordan Smith on the assumption’s Aluko’s powerful shot in the 78th minute from a tight angle would have missed the target.

But it has now been confirmed by the English Football League that referee Paul Tierney awarded the goal to Aluko in his official report.

Photo evidence also strongly suggests Aluko’s low, left-footed drive was on target and definitely going in before hitting Smith’s arm and rolling over the line.

This shot by Sone Aluko was deemed to have been on target by referee Paul Tierney in his official report.

The EFL has now updated its record books and given the goal to Aluko.

The goal put Reading 3-0 up before Forest’s Ben Osborn grabbed a late consolation in Tuesday night’s clash at Madejski Stadium.

The victory ended a run of back-to-back-defeats for Royals boss Jaap Stam, whose side travel to sixth-placed Derby County tomorrow (3pm ko).

And Aluko was in bullish mood ahead of the clash at Pride Park.

“It’s another very hard game,” he said. “We always talk about how tough every game is, especially this season.

“We have to work hard for the points… nothing is given to you, you have to earn every one.

“We’re going to a good side, but the result against Forest will give us confidence and scoring goals gives us confidence.

“We can win the game. We’ve got a gameplan, and we’ll execute it.”

Mo Barrow lifts team-mate Sone Aluko in the air after Royals take a 3-0 lead against Nottingham Fortest.

Reading, who remain 20th in the table, had lost four of their previous five Championship games before beating Nottingham Forest.

Aluko reflected on one of their best displays for several weeks by saying: “It was more of an all-round performance.

“We scored first, which is crucial, kept the ball well and the intensity was better.

“We’re frustrated in the results we’ve been getting and that the performances haven’t been going our way. All of our errors have been badly punished.

“Against Forest that frustration came out, it all clicked. The result didn’t flatter us.”
