A PROJECT to celebrate to celebrate the hidden history of Reading Abbey is asking residents to check if they have any of the original stones.

The Hidden Abbey Stones Project (HASP) is a new venture which aims to learn more about the sections of the Abbey that were removed following the dissolution in 1538.

A meeting at St James Church will give members of the public the opportunity to learn more about the project on Friday at 7.30pm.

Councillor Sarah Hacker, lead member for Culture, said: “Many people across the town may have stones that once formed part of Reading Abbey in their gardens, but simply don’t realise they own a part of Reading’s history.

“The public meeting is a brilliant opportunity for residents to learn more about the project and the materials that were once part of one of the most important religious buildings in Europe.”

Entry to the meeting is free, but tickets must be reserved in advance by visiting http://bit.ly/2xIbtJx or by searching 'Hidden Abbey Stones Project' on Eventbrite.
