A SECURITY guard's fight against a supermarket has taken a twist after he was seen climbing on the rafters of the ceiling.

Eye witnesses described seeing the man outside Tesco on Portman Road, campaigning after he was sacked as a watchman for the supermarket, before he was captured climbing above the tills.

Furious customers were told to stand outside while emergency services were called to deal with the incident at around 6.30pm on Thursday (October 12).

Natalia Kubinska contacted the Chronicle and said: "It is the guy that used to be a security guard in Tesco and got fired for apparently stealing something.

"He was protesting outside of Tesco for ages, saying how they have ruined his reputation.

"Roughly at 6:30 pm, he had his banners outside saying how Tesco has treated him unfairly and then he just walked inside and crawled up one of the metal banners in the shop and sat up there.

Reading Chronicle:

"Police and ambulance and fire brigade came but he was refusing to come down.

"He was recording absolutely everything on his phone.

"A lot of people outside were furious shouting and banging on the windows saying they want to go in and do their food shop.

"They made everyone leave and would not let anyone go in.

"I just drove to Tesco right now [10pm] and it is still shut. Police said they are expecting him to be there all night. It is absolute chaos."

Adama Jammeh was employed by Total Security Services until May last year before he was accused of stealing thousands of pounds worth of electrical goods.

He was arrested but was cleared of all charges following a year-long police investigation, which saw his home on Lyndhurst Road, Tilehurst raided in search of the goods he was accused of taking.

Thames Valley Police confirmed Mr Jammeh was released without charge in April this year, but he has continued to campaign outside the store ever since.

A Tesco spokesman said: "We are aware of an incident at our Reading West Extra store and are assisting police with the matter."

Thames Valley Police added: "Officers are currently responding to reports of a fear for welfare of a man in Tesco Extra, Portman Road.

"The store is currently closed. The incident is currently ongoing."
