PATIENTS at the Royal Berkshire Hospital are enjoying their newly-refurbished day room thanks to a significant donation.
Newbury resident David Church has raised more than £30,000 since losing his wife Maureen in 1999 and he pledged enough money to give the Victoria Ward a makeover.
The new room provides a home-from-home environment, giving patients and visitors the chance to enjoy time away from the ward and talk during visiting hours.
Mr Church said: "It is a real pleasure to fund the refurbishment of this lovely day room and I hope that it will help make a difference to the patients and visitors on the ward.
"My late wife received excellent care here and I am delighted that I have been able to give something back.
"I would like to thank everyone who has taken part in activities and contributed over the years to make the fundraising such a success.”
