A HOUSE was engulfed in flames after a fire tore through its kitchen in the early hours of this morning, firefighters have revealed.

The blaze ripped through a house and caused half a street to be sealed off as crews battled the blaze.

The flames ripped through the house at Tokers Green, forcing firefighters from Caversham Road and Dee Road to close Kidmore Road and Rokely Drive.

Starting in the kitchen, the fire spread through the house until crews arrived at the scene at around 8am this morning (Tuesday).

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus to protect themselves from the smoke as they doused the flames.

After a fan was used to ventilate the area and rid the house of the smoke caused by the blaze crews left after an hour and a half at the scene.
