A CHARITY boxing match was dramatically stalled after a mass brawl broke out in the crowd, it has been revealed.

Thames Valley Police were called to the Olympia Ballroom in London Street, Reading, on Saturday night after a group of spectators sparked a ruckus.

It was understood that people were unhappy about a match decision and tempers began to flare before a punch-up erupted.

Scores of people suffered minor injuries in the scuffle and police have launched an investigation.

The fight broke out shortly after 11pm following a draw between two fighters, the Chronicle was told.

Police arrived to disperse the trouble but it meant the remainder of the show had to be cancelled.

A source said: "I believe one bout ended in a draw which spectators didn't like and fighting kicked off, forcing the rest of the show to be cancelled."

Officers investigating the brawl have urged anyone with information to contact the force on 101.

A spokesman added: "We were called to an incident at the Olympia Ballroom in London Street, Reading shortly after 11pm on Saturday to reports of an affray in which a number of people were fighting each other after the conclusion of a charity boxing match.

"A number of people received minor injuries.

"An investigation is ongoing."

The organisers of the boxing match were not available to comment.
