A PAIR of reckless motorists who took part in a high-octane drive along a notorious road have been sentenced.

Wesley Dunn and Simon Craze-Barnes undertook and clipped each other while speeding along the A34 near Newbury.

At one point, Dunn attempted to block Craze-Barnes, forcing him to drive straight over a roundabout.

Police hit out at the reckless duo for carrying out the dangerous stunts on a road known for a number of fatal and serious crashes.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "On February 18 2016, at about 2am, Craze-Barnes and Dunn were driving separate vehicles on the A34 southbound in Newbury.

"Both drivers carried out dangerous manoeuvres, including undertaking each other.

"Craze-Barnes' vehicle clipped the vehicle being driven by Dunn. Dunn then attempted to block Craze-Barnes, which caused him to drive over a roundabout."

The duo were both convicted of a single count of dangerous driving following a three-day trial at Reading Crown Court earlier this month.

Dunn, aged 25 and of Grainger Gardens, Southampton was jailed for eight months, banned from driving for two years and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £100.

Meanwhile Craze-Barnes, of Hillbourne Road, Poole, was sentenced to four months in jail, suspended for two years. He was also banned from driving for two years and ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.

The 49-year-old was ordered to pay £1,500 in costs and a victim surcharge fee of £80.

Police constable Beth Drummond added: "The A34 is a busy road and has been the location of a number of fatal and serious collisions.

"I want to make the public aware that this kind of driving will not be tolerated and I hope it sends out a strong message to the public on the importance of driving safely."
