A FIREARM scare sparked a police search near Coley Recreation Ground yesterday (August 14) evening.
Emergency services deployed a police helicopter to a field near Trelleck Road shortly after 5pm.
A member of the public spotted two males near the field and thought one of the men was carrying a gun.
Officers from Thames Valley Police (TVP) attended the scene and tracked down the two men, only to discover they did not have guns.
A spokesman for TVP explained: "A member of the public reported a sighting of two males with what appeared to the person to be firearms in a field near Trelleck Road, Reading, shortly after 5pm.
"Officers attended the scene and located the males and established they did not have firearms and did not pose a threat to anyone."
