AN Olivier Award winning theatre director has been confirmed as director of a theatrical spectacle taking place in The Oracle this September.

Donnacadh O’Briain, who has worked with The Royal Shakespeare Company and in the West End, will be joining Reading’s theatre company Reading Between the Lines (RBL), to tell the story of Reading’s Royal Burial at The Oracle Riverside.

The spectacle will follow Henry I and the tale of how he came to be buried in the town, with music by composers Benjamin Hudson and Rosalind Steele, who have performed on BBC Radio 1, 6 & 3 and at festivals worldwide and theatres across the country.

As a central event for the inaugural Reading-on-Thames Festival, the play will run on September 15 at 7.30pm.

RBL, who achieved unprecedented success with last year’s five star, award winning new play, Henry I of England, say they are thrilled to be working on this new project just two months before they perform the world premiere of the sequel, Matilda the Empress, staged beside Reading Abbey, where Henry was buried.

Tickets for this hour long outdoor production, staged beside the river Kennet in The Oracle, are free but must be booked from RBL’s website prior to the production.
