A CAR has been written off after firefighters responded to an electrical fire in Sonning Common this morning.

Emergency services were sent to Wood Lane at around 2.30am after a grey BMW caught fire.

Neighbours were awoken by the commotion and a crew from Caversham Road fire station were sent to tackle the blaze.

Firefighters believe the fire was started as a result of an electrical fault, but nobody was injured.

Watch manager James McGuinnity said: "We had a car fire in Sonning Common at around 2.30am on Wood Lane.

"We were the only crew in attendance. It was a grey BMW and nobody was trapped in the car.

"Some residents had woken up by the time we arrived and we think the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

"The car was outside the owner's house and was 100 per cent written off due to the damage."
