A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after a woman jogger was attacked in broad daylight.

The victim, aged in her twenties, was out for a leisurely run along Tanners Lane near Emmer Green on Sunday morning.

She jogged past a man before she was knocked to the ground and assaulted.

Callum Mcphee, aged 28, of Chalkhouse Green Road, Kidmore End, Reading, was charged with a single count of attempted murder.

He was hauled before magistrates in Oxford today (Tuesday) and remanded in custody to appear before a crown court judge next month.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "At around 8am on Sunday a woman in her twenties was jogging along Tanners Lane, Chalkhouse near Emmer Green.

"A man grabbed her and physically assaulted her."

Police said the woman fled her attacker and hid in some bramble bushes.

A probe was launched into the attack, which happened on a quiet country lane, and anyone with information should contact the force on 101.

Investigating police want to speak to a cyclist who they believe may hold clues into the case.

Detective chief inspector Lis Knight added: "We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this isolated incident.

"Shortly before the attack the victim was passed by a man who was riding a bicycle.

"We believe that this cyclist may have seen both the victim and the attacker prior to this incident.

"We would ask him or anyone who has information to please call 101 quoting reference 400 (23/7/2017)."
