A VIBRANT gathering of culture and community spirit saw hundreds of people gather for the Newbury Carnival on Sunday.

Packed crowds headed down to Bartholomew Street for the ever-popular parade at 2pm after a tribute to Elvis from local group 'Trouble'.

The carnival was officially opened by town mayor, Councillor David Fenn, and guests were treated to a spectrum of colour throughout the procession.

Prizes were also on offer in a range of categories, including the Prince and Princess of the 2017 carnival and the judges' special award.

Carnival project manager Ruth Walker said: β€œIt was great to showcase some of the brilliant talent we have in Newbury, both in the vibrant parade and with all our brilliant performers at the main stage in Victoria Park.

β€œI would like to say a huge thanks to them all. We had a fabulous day and the crowds really joined in and had fun too.”

The crowds were treated to some spectacular entries, including the impressive John the Giant, the Harley Davidson Drive Through and the Reading Scottish Pipe Band.
