CHILDREN at an outstanding Caversham school received a special visit from one of the town's leading political figures.

Matt Rodda, Labour MP for Reading East, visited the Heights Primary School to celebrate their successful Ofsted inspection.

The school achieved the highest possible rating in its first review from the education watchdog following the May visit.

Mr Rodda said: “It was a pleasure to visit the Heights and to hear about the work of pupils and staff.

“I am campaigning against cuts to local schools and it was interesting to visit and I am looking forward to talking to more local head teachers and parents.”

The report gave special praise for the quality of leadership and inspectors said the school is going 'the extra mile' to help children succeed.

Plans to move the Caversham school, which currently operates from a temporary location on Gosbrook Road, have attracted criticism from residents living near the Mapledurham playing fields.

Nick Walden, chair of the board of governors and Karen Edwards, head teacher of the Heights, welcomed the newly-elected MP to the school to highlight the exceptional standard of teaching.
