A FURIOUS resident has slammed the council after travellers were once again able to pitch up at a hot-spot.

The group moved into the green space in Granville Road, Reading, earlier this week.

Neighbours had previously blasted the local authority after a group of travellers left mess, including human faeces, on the site and it was not cleared up for weeks.

Residents cited noise concerns and confrontational hounds in the latest of a string of problems blighting the area.

“I get up at 5am to go to work and my husband gets up at 2am,” said one woman.

“We have to listen to loud music all night long.

“When we walk out to the car their dogs come running up and start yapping at our feet.

“Last time they were here the rubbish was left for weeks.

“This time it looks like they’re tipping battery acid into the bushes.”

Reading Borough Council previously apologised to residents in the area following a string of complaints.

However, the authority revealed it did not want to fence off the patch of land, but rather “enhance the landscape of the area” to prevent further incursions.

But the work is yet to begin.

“I am sick of tired of this,” said the frustrated resident “This is the eighth time in less than six months.

“The council told me they have to take them to court again.

“They are supposed to be doing work to stop them from coming in.

“The council is just shifting them around and letting them go from place to place.”

A council spokesman said work to prevent travellers from pitching up in the area will begin in the coming weeks.

They added: “We are aware of the encampment. Officers have visited the site to carry out an assessment and the matter has been referred to our legal team to commence possession proceedings.

“We appreciate that there is a history of incursions in this area, and the Council will be starting work over the coming weeks to secure land using knee rail metal barriers and natural barriers that have proven successful in other areas.”
