READING West MP Alok Sharma has come under fire from an angry group of residents.

Mr Sharma, who was re–elected earlier this month, has been conducting a series of interviews regarding the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Mr Sharma was given the role of Housing Minister just 24 hours before the Grenfell blaze.

On Sunday evening, he came under the wrath of media mogul Piers Morgan, after reportedly turning down an invitation to speak on Good Morning Britain.

Mr Morgan accused Mr Sharma of being 'utterly spineless.'

Mr Sharma did appear on the show, where he said a full investigation is being carried out.

Seventy–nine people are known to have perished in the fire, but the number is expected to rise in to the hundreds.

Tests conducted on other high–rise tower blocks and hotels have revealed the cladding used is unsafe.

Mr Sharma this morning appeared on the Victoria Derbyshire Show in his capacity as Housing Minister and was confronted by a crowd of angry residents.

Before he arrived, one resident said the disaster shows there is a 'price tag on the value of people's lives'.

When Mr Sharma arrived and passed his condolences to the residents, one shouted that they need 'actions not words' and 'we don't want your sympathy'.

He then came under fire because some of the victims still have not been re–housed.

Mr Sharma promised they would all have new homes by next Wednesday.

One told him they would 'hold him accountable.'

Mr Sharma said: "You should sir, you should hold me accountable for that."

Mr Sharma said he would not leave the meeting until he had spoken to every single resident in need and helped resolve their situation.
