COMMUTERS can rest easy this Bank Holiday after Highways England claimed there will be a 98 per cent roadwork-free motorway network.
More than 300 miles of roadworks across the country will be finished or put on hold, with 80 miles being lifted across the South East.
A total of 184 roadworks are due to be completed, with another 162 being suspended to help provide clearer roads for people travelling this May Bank Holiday.
Roadworks are set to be suspended from the morning of Friday, May 26 to the morning of Tuesday, May 30.
With the highest temperatures of the year coinciding with this week, families will be hoping to make the most of the sunny weather.
Highways England would like to remind motorists to check their vehicles are roadworthy before setting off on any journey, including checking tyre pressure and depth, the level engine oil and ensuring that all lights are functioning properly.
