JACK Findlater won the second round of the Lambourn Trophy at West Berks with a nett 68, four shots clear of Jock Douglas who took second place from Pete Dye on count-back.

In the overall competition Patrick Wilmore, who was lying second after last week’s first round, was out early in the second round and his 76 gave him a total of 151 that remained the leading clubhouse score for over three hours.

Then Dye, in a five-way tie for 12th place before the start and playing in the penultimate group, matched Wilmore’s 151 to snatch the title on count-back thanks to a second round 72. Luke Prestoe was a single shot behind in third place.

Gale and Tom McAuley won the annual Husbands and Wives Trophy with 38 points. Shelagh and Barry Lancaster took second place with 35, beating Carol and Mike Sparvell on count-back.

Meanwhile, Jane Brackenbury and Renee Wheeler won the Ladies' Coronation Foursomes with 30 points, beating Babs Collyer and Heather Green on count-back while Sandy Miller and Shelagh Forder were third with 28 points.

In the team events, the scratch team recorded a comprehensive 7-0 home victory against Newbury and Crookham, while the Sevens team lost 4-3 away at Cotswolds.

  • DEREK Cole (17hcp) won the Seniors’ Medal at Sonning GC, carding a nett 70 for a three-shot win.

Alan Wearing (13hcp) was second with a 73, while Michael Ferris (11hcp) took third on count-back a shot further back. Five others players – Ronald Cunningham (21hcp), Terry Enright (19hcp), Derek Cottrell (11hcp), John Searle (21hcp) and Paul Cain (14hcp) – also shot 74.

Sonning past captains edged out East Berks past captains 3½-2½ in their game last Friday.

Derry Lewis and Mike Reeves halved the opening match, and there were victories for David Howes and Paul Gold, Bill Branagh and Laurie Bridgeman, and Malcolm Middlemist and Tom Morrison.
