THE town's bus service is taking its partnership with Reading FC to a new level by being recognised as the club's official travel partner.

Reading Buses unveiled a new branded bus to promote the partnership, one week after announcing it would provide cheaper travel to Royals fans carrying a concessionary pass in the 2017/18 season.

The design of the Reading FC branded bus was produced by a Royals season ticket holder and graphic designer Ben Greenwood.

Martin Gilbert, CEO of Reading Buses, said: “We are delighted to provide not only this branded bus, but buses in general to help fans get to and from home games.

“At the same time we are encouraging more people to take this special bus to the Madejski Stadium to support Reading FC’s push for promotion.

“Announcement of the branded bus also marks great news for concessionary pass holders that the special £1 each way fare will be extended into the new season.

“That means anybody holding an older person’s concessionary pass can travel to and from the stadium for just £1 on match days.”

With Reading pushing for promotion to the Premier League, it is hoped the new bus will inspire supporters to get behind the team for the last two home matches of the season against Rotherham and Wigan.

Royals skipper Paul McShane, boss Jaap Stam and midfielder John Swift all feature on the branded bus, which was officially unveiled at the Madejski Stadium on Friday.

Dara Thomas, head of marketing at Reading FC, added: “We think the bus looks incredible and we hope our fans feel the same when they see it driving around Reading.

“We very much value our role in the local community and it’s fantastic to be able to have increased visibility in the local area.

“The imagery is really powerful and hopefully it evokes a sense of pride in the team and the town.”
