COMMUTERS are being warned of disruptions in Tilehurst throughout the Easter school holidays while the next phase of cross-town cycle route is carried out.

A raised table is set to be installed on Honey End Lane as part of the Route 422 project, with delays expected for road users between April 8 and 23.

The cycle route will provide an essential east-west trail through the town, making it easier for fitness fanatics to travel around the borough.

Once complete, Route 422 will run from Newbury to Ascot, with the project due to be completed in Spring 2019.

Councillor Tony Page, lead member for Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport, said: "This phase of important works has been scheduled to take place during the school holidays to minimise delays, as that is when traffic levels are lower than usual.

"The new raised table across Honey End Lane is an important safety element at a key junction for the new cycle route.

"This work will obviously cause some disruption and we would ask all road users to bear with us while it takes place.

"The council needs to balance the demands of all road users on limited road space in Reading, which means a shared cycle and pedestrian facility is the only way the new route can be delivered without the loss of road space for general traffic."

Drivers are advised to access Honey End Lane from Liebenrood Road and Tilehurst Road while the vital works are being carried out.

Reading Borough Council will construct shared cycle and pedestrian facilities on the northern side of Bath Road, with no loss of space for motorists.

Pedestrian access will be permitted throughout the duration of the project, which is due to be completed before the end of the school holidays.
