AN air ambulance was called to a school after a pupil fell, hitting his head.

A land ambulance was also called to Prospect School in Tilehurst after the accident on Monday afternoon.

Pupils had just finished eating lunch when the helicopter touched down on the school playing fields to treat the schoolboy who had a concussion.

Head teacher Phil Davis said: "We have covered areas in the grounds and a child was swinging from a metal bar.

"He fell and hit his head and the staff took no chances and phoned an ambulance.

"The air ambulance also attended and landed on the field which caused a bit of a stir.

"It was told to stand down but didn't get the message.

"The boy's suffering from a concussion."

A spokesman for the South Central Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 1.30pm to Honey End Lane to treat a child who had fallen and suffered a head injury.

"We sent an ambulance crew and the air ambulance to the scene."
