THE HUNT is on for the county's finest mermaid.

Now in its third year, Miss Mermaid UK brings together 18-32 year-old women with a love of pageantry and ocean-based people.

On May 12 the Berkshire heats of the competition will choose its regional champion in an evening made up of four rounds: the interview, the little black dress, the eco and the evening gown.

Grace Page, a former Reading College student and last year's Miss Reading, won the 2016 Berkshire finals.

Reading Chronicle:

The judges were so impressed with Grace's aquatic aptitude and the success of her company 'Hire a Mermaid UK', they asked her to run the national competition.

She said: “The eco round aims to show girls that there is more to recycling than plastic bottles. Girls will need to use their creativity to put together a fashion outfit from charity shop clothing that shows off their individual style.

“Girls will be judged on their stage presence, aspiration and personality.

“No previous mermaid-ing experience is necessary and Miss Mermaid UK welcomes ladies of all shapes. You just need to have a love of the sea and all the creatures that live there.”

The winner of Miss Mermaid Berkshire will go on to the national final of Miss Mermaid UK at Billing Aquadrome, Northampton on the July 28 and 29, with the overall champion winning a trip to Egypt and a spot in the international finals.
