STUDENTS in Reading live in luxury and have some of the most fun, according to a new survey.

The Times Higher Education Survey 2017, which polled 15,800 students across the UK, found those attending the University of Reading have the ninth best 'societal experience'.

The ranking measured social life, community atmosphere, extracurricular activities and the environment on campus.

The university also provides the sixth best accommodation, beating Cambridge into seventh and Oxford into ninth.

Overall Reading came joint 18th for student experience - jumping up 15 places in four years.

Tara Louise Williams, a sleep-deprived but elated third year English literature and creative writing student who had just handed in an important essay, said: "I agree with the results. The uni campus is beautiful. It's a really stunning setting to study in.

"The student union has a lot going on as well. The whole social element is amazing.

"There are events going on throughout the week. Dance nights at the union or Match Box socials are probably the best."

Gabrielle Nelson, from Bracknell, echoed her thoughts.

She said: "'English society events are always well thought out and super fun. There's lots of places to drink on campus and everything is close together and wonderful."

Areas where the university fared less well were industry connection, student welfare and academic experience, where it ranked 28th, 31st and 59th respectively.
