MORE than 100 people took part in a disabled sports day at Loddon Valley Leisure Centre in Earley last week.

Guests from across Wokingham Borough attended the Disability Sports Taster Day on Wednesday, March 15, with medals and prizes being handed out throughout the day.

Mayor Bob Pitts opened the sports festival, which encouraged newcomers to test their skills at football, karate, cricket, table tennis and wheelchair rugby.

Councillor Angus Ross, Wokingham Borough Council's executive member for environment, said: “I was delighted to spend some of the day and present the prizes at this event.

“To assemble so many of our disabled members of our community, supported so ably by coaches from the ten sports and organised by our sports team, was impressive.

“It was clear to see how much everyone enjoyed the day and benefited from the experience.”

Each team were awarded points for team work, enthusiasm and effort and participants received a goody bag and a certificate of participation.

Medals were also awarded to individuals who displayed outstanding effort during the day.

The festival was organised by the council in partnership with their leisure provider and was also supported by Tesco, Wokingham, who provided free fruit and water to guests and coaches.
