VOLUNTEERS dug deep in an effort to improve a community pond in Newbury.
The team of eight green-fingered gardeners for Hitachi Vehicle Solution spent a day clearing and digging a deeper pond for the Growing2gether community garden in Cottismore Park.
Sam Postlethwaite, a spokesman for the firm, said: "With the threat of bad weather looming, the team worked diligently and without breaks to clear and dig the five by four metre pond to the depth of 76cm.
"The band of eight cleared away stones, lumps of concrete and wheelbarrows of clay, replacing it with a large amount of sand and rolls of carpet to reinforce the pond’s lining."
Growing 2gether is a project giving everyone the chance to learn about and help grow a range of fruit and vegetables.
It is run by the Newbury Community Resource Centre.
