A KEEN runner is set to take on the London Marathon in aid of the research that saved her mother's life.

Kirsti McKenzie, 31, will be taking on the 26-mile challenge next month to raise money for World Cancer Research Fund.

After running two half-marathons, Kirsti is confident she can master one of the biggest races in the world, having been spurred on by her mother's battle with the illness.

Kirsti said: “This year my Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, but due to the amazing research and technology in cancer detection it was caught very early on and we were very fortunate.

“I would like to show my appreciation for cancer researchers by raising funds for World Cancer Research Fund.”

Kirsti, who is hoping to raise £1,000, is set to join 26 other members of the World Cancer Research Fund team running around the capital's streets.

Paul Fretwell, head of fundraising for World Cancer Research Fund, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Kirsti for her fantastic support.

“It’s thanks to the amazing efforts of people like Kirsti that we can continue to help the public make more informed lifestyle choices to reduce their risk of cancer.”
