A MOTHER and two children had a lucky escape after a blaze broke out in their kitchen on Sunday evening.
Crews from Dee Road and Newbury were called at 7pm when an electrical fault left the kitchen of a Thatcham home 'completely charred'.
Nobody was injured although firefighters reported extensive smoke damage to the house on Beech Road.
Crew manager Matt Frayne, from Newbury Fire Station, said: "We had a kitchen fire on Beech Road in Thatcham on Newbury.
"We were called at just after 7pm after a fridge had started to smoke. Luckily the mother and two children inside noticed the smoke and escaped unharmed.
"There was extensive smoke damage and by the time the fire was put out the kitchen was completely charred."
Simon Parrett, watch manager from Dee Road Fire Station, added: "We were called at 7pm after a fire started on Beech Road, although Newbury arrived at the scene first.
"There was nobody inside the house when we arrived and nobody was injured in any way."
