THE tragic death of a 60-year-old man who sustained serious injuries after a car collided with a tree and crashed into fence was at the centre of a police investigation today.

A red Honda Civic, which was also carrying a teenager and a man in his 30s, careened off the road in Grazeley shortly before 7pm.

Roads policing investigators sealed off a section of Mortimer Road until midnight while they combed the scenes for clues into the crash.

Paramedics were scrambled to the scene and the man in his 60s was immediately airlifted to Southampton General Hospital after he sustained life-threatening injuries.

He sadly died in hospital 10 days later.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "At approximately 6.45pm on Saturday January 21, a red Honda Civic Type R collided with a tree on Mortimer Road.

"The rear seat passenger in the vehicle, a 60-year-old man from the Reading area, sustained serious injuries in the collision and was taken to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance. He sadly died on Tuesday.

"The driver, a 33-year-old man, and a 14 year-old male passenger suffered minor injuries and were treated by ambulance at the scene."

After leaving the road, the car crashed into a resident's gate before colliding with some fencing.

Police continued to probe the tragic crash today (Friday) and urged anyone with information to contact the force immediately on 101.

Sergeant Noble added: "We are currently investigating the full circumstances into the causes of this incident, which sadly resulted in the loss of a life.

“The vehicle had a significant impact with a tree, some gates and fencing to a local residence.

“If anyone is able to assist with any information relevant to this investigation, I would urge them to please make contact as soon as possible.”
