Well considering the strain put on state schools in recent times, I don't see it being a problem if they ask for a donation from time to time, but parents should have the right to opt out if they wish.

I feel that asking for money to contribute to your child's schooling seems very harsh due to many people's financial circumstances being different. Instead asking parents to contribute through PTA volunteering and fund raising can help any organisation flourish.

No they most definitely should not ask parents to contribute to school funds. Why is funding being cut in all the important areas such as schooling and NHS? As a single parent I wouldn't of been able to afford to send my son to school if that had of happened when he was attending primary school. I think it's outrageous.

I think they already do ask and normally parents comply. I would understand if the local council gave them less money, but then it's bad if you're a low income family. You wouldn't want to be one of the kids whose parents couldn't pay.
