A DRUG dealer who was caught red-handed dealing cannabis by an off-duty policeman was slapped with a community order last week.

Tommy Gillyon was mid-way through a sale in Waller Drive, Turnpike, when he was spotted by a plain-clothed policeman.

The officer stepped in and arrested Gillyon, aged 19, and found a stash of cannabis, as well as his mobile phone and cash.

He was then hauled before magistrates where he admitted a single count of possession with intent to supply class B drugs.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "The conviction relates to an offence on June 17 2016, where Gillyon was seen by an off-duty police officer to exchange drugs for money.

"Gillyon was detained at the scene and was found to have cannabis on his possession, as well as his phone and money."

Gillyon, of Oakley Road, Newbury, was given a 40 hour community order, ordered to pay £85 in costs and his drugs, money and phone were destroyed.

Detective Constable Andy Philpott added: "This conviction should send a warning to those considering supplying cannabis, that it will not be tolerated within our communities."
