A MOTORCYCLIST died in a horrific crash involving a lorry and a teenager, police confirmed today.

Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after midnight but paramedics were not able to save the 27-year-old.

A section of the main road linking Reading and Oxford was shut down while roads policing investigators combed the crash-site for clues, causing lengthy tailbacks this morning.

Police assessed the driver of the lorry and an 18-year-old man, who was driving a car involved in the fatal crash, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Officers investigating the crash have urged anyone with information to contact them on 101.

Emergency services arrived at the A4074 near Wallingford to find that an orange Scania lorry, a silver Vauxhall Corsa and a Yamaha motorcycle had collided.

Paramedics assessed the motorcyclist but the man, who was from Reading, was sadly declared dead at the scene.

The road was sealed off by police tape and officers spoke to both the driver of the lorry and the driver of the silver car.

The man driving the silver car, aged 18 and from Wallingford, was arrested.

A police spokesman said: "There were only three people involved in the collision – the driver of the orange Scania HGV, the driver of the silver Vauxhall Corsa and the rider of the Yamaha motorcycle.

"Sadly the motorcyclist died at the scene."

Police officers remained on the scene throughout the morning and traffic coming from Wallingford towards Reading was diverted through Henley.

One commuter told the Chronicle: "The traffic was horrendous, I didn't know what had happened but someone told me that the road was closed off and that we had to find another route.

"There must have been at least five miles of tailbacks this morning."
