BUGLARS who were caught red-handed in a Whitley wood with a stolen television are now in prison.

On October 13 police were called to a residence in Hillbrow after Mark Ward, 39, and Samantha Lane, 34, were spotted tampering with a door before sneaking into the back garden.

A short while later they left carrying a host of items.

Police officers arrived on the scene to find Ward and Lane in nearby woods with the stolen television, bags full of electrical items and a wallet.

Lane was also found with amphetamines.

On November 16 Ward, of Faringdon Walk, Reading, admitted to one count of burglary dwelling at Reading Crown Court and was sentenced to two years and five months.

On the same day Lane, of Linden Road, Reading, also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 14 months for one count of burglary dwelling and one count of possession of class B drugs.

Investigating officer detective constable Rebecca Nichols of Reading Local CID, said: “This is a great result.

“Thanks to a call from a member of the public, we were able to act quickly and arrest these two burglars before any more people become their victims."
