A MAN has been charged after an imitation firearm was let off in a West Reading street just after midnight on Monday.

Police were called to a property on Catherine Street at 00.07am following reports of gun fire.

Catherine Road resident Mohammed Ayub, 24, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. 

The west end of the road was closed off for much of Monday as police carried out investigations. 

A spokesperson from Thames Valley Police said: "Officers were called to an address at around 00.07am.

"There was a report of disorder in which a fireman was discharged.

"No one was injured."

Mr Ayub appeared at Reading Magistrates' Court shortly after 12pm on Tuesday. 

He was remanded in custody and is due to stand in Reading Crown Court on December 19.
