STRONG support against the closure of Lloyds Caversham branch has emerged following a petition created by Rob Wilson MP.

More than 350 people have signed the petition calling for Lloyds to reverse their decision to close the branch, which has left many account holders confused and concerned.

Mr Wilson has received further support from Cllr Ed Hopper and several volunteers, who all met in the St Martin’s Precinct on Saturday to reassure the anxious customers.

He said: “Throughout my correspondence with Lloyds Banking Group, I have endeavoured to represent the views of my constituents and the considerable impact the branch closure will have for loyal account holders.

“The support for my petition demonstrates the strength of local opposition and has provided Lloyds customers a platform from which they can express their genuine concerns – a platform denied to them by the bank."

The MP has raised his concern over the closure in light of inadequacies of the alternative Broad Street branch.

The strong response from the petition also highlighted the value customers place on the personal service that cannot be replicated online.

Mr Wilson added: “I have written again to Lloyds Banking Group to inform it of the outcome of the petition and the concerns of local account holders.

"I would like to thank those who gave their time on Saturday to help with the petition and I will continue to press Lloyds to reverse this ill-considered course of action.”
