A READING hotel owned by the same family since 1975 will undergo major refurbishment thanks to a takeover.
Calcot Hotel Best Western, in Bath Road, had been owned by the Dunn family for the last 40 years, but they have now sold the 78-bedroom hotel to a company called SGS Hotels.
The three-star hotel will now undergo major refurbishment, of which top of the agenda is cleaning and repainting the mouldy roof, buying furniture and laying down new carpets.
Director Ian Dunn said: “We have enjoyed a happy 40 years here at the Calcot Hotel, been blessed with wonderful staff and made friends along the way. We would like to wish SGS Hotels every success in the future.”
It will continue to be business as usual for the hotel as it will be operated by the same management and staff as before the takeover.
Director of SGS Hotels Mayank Gulati said the company is always on the lookout for exciting new opportunities, either with branded or non-branded hotels.
“We saw the Calcot Hotel Best Western as an ideal opportunity to expand our offering in a prime location,” he said.
SGS plans to finish the work by January 2017.
