BOOZE-fuelled revellers at Reading train station will be met with an increased police presence as a two-week crackdown launches this weekend.
Transport police will be patrolling the station at peak times over the weekend to reassure travellers.
Operation Stronghold will try and contain alcohol fuelled anti-social behaviour during the early evening.
Inspector Shawn Taylor, British Transport Police lead for the operation, said: "Increasing our visibility and activity at these key times allows us to further reassure the public that they can travel in a safe and secure environment.
"Summer is always a busy period in Reading, with lots of events and attractions for people of all ages – from school holiday activities for children to the bustling bars, clubs and restaurants of the city centre.
"As such, we want everyone using the rail network at the weekends to enjoy themselves, but also to get to and from the city safely.
"Complementing our usual patrols, Operation Stronghold is an important initiative that demonstrates the vital role we play in keeping the railway safe and secure for all who use it.
"Put simply, it’s about having officers at key locations at key times to reduce crime and keep the travelling public safe.
"Our officers will also be promoting the use of our unique text number, 61016, which allows rail users to report crime or anti-social behaviour in a discreet manner."
Similar operations across the country have seen siginicant drop in anti-social behaviour.
The officers will be patrolling the station this weekend, July 22/23 and next.
