THE future of travel was this year's theme as families descended once again on Reading Buses' depot for their annual open day.

Touring behind the scenes in Great Knollys Street residents were welcomed to see the vision of how we may be getting around by 2050.

With everything from stormtroopers to rides through the giant bus wash there was something for everyone at Sunday's event.

Jake Osman, marketing and communications manager at Reading Buses, said: "Visitors could see their names up in lights, with our programmable destination display, we had our retro-liveried bus celebrating the success of Reading Buses since the 30 years of deregulation and, of course, we had our bus of the future display.

"On board this bus, we had displays showing our ideas about where bus travel could go in the future – from smart buses being able to request parts that are about to break, to personalised information so that your driver knows your name before they arrive at your stop."

Opened by the Mayor of Reading Cllr Mohammed Ayub the day's proceedings - totalling [how much] - will go to Reading Buses' charity of the year CALM – the Campaign Against Living Miserably.
