A HAIRDRESSER has been nominated for a Reading Retail Award for her excellent customer service.
Sophie Clifton, who works at Toni & Guy on Cliff Street, was out forward into the Service with a Smile category by James Grant.
Miss Clifton decided to get into the hair dressing game at the age of 15, when a school teacher suggested it is a possible outlet for her creativity.
“I have always been quite creative,” said the 21 year-old, who lives in Maidenhead.
“I find hairdressing is a great way to express my artistic side. The head becomes a canvas.”
Having opted for the hairdressing route, Miss Clifton worked herself up from apprentice to full time hair sculptor, gaining customer experience and confidence in the process.
She said: “When I first starting shampooing people's hair I found it absolutely terrifying.
“Now I love it when customers come in. You know you can change help them leave with a smile.”
Mr Grant, who worked as Miss Clifton's manager at Toni & Guy, commended her determined and kind hearted approach to work.
He said: “Sophie is always going out of her way to help customers and fellow team members without a second thought.
“She is a humble, modest girl who takes everything in her stride.
“She truly always delivered a service. With a smile.”
The Reading Retail Awards are in their seventh year. Nominations close on July 11 with the awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel on September 17.
