A SECOND man has been arrested following the Prospect Park shooting.

The 26-year-old from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

On Monday May 30, a 23-year-old male was airlifted to hospital with extensive injuries after being shot in the leg.

The victim underwent surgery and was later discharged. He is now recovering.

Police believe he was ‘targeted’ but have denied any connection to a Caribbean festival being held in the park earlier that day.

Another man, 26, was arrested on May 31 on suspicion of affray and remains on police bail.

Det Insp Dave Hubbard, investigating officer, said: “The investigation is progressing and we have this week made a second arrest in connection with the incident.

“We would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or who has any information about the circumstances.”

The second arrest was made yesterday and the man has been bailed until July 26.

Superintendent Stan Gilmour, local policing area commander for Reading, said: “I would like to reassure the public that this attack appears to have been targeted against an individual and does not represent a threat to the community.”

Witnesses to the crime are still being sought.
