A CARER who scammed vulnerable pensioners living at a home for the elderly in Goring has been convicted of fraud.

Michelle Brandish stole bank cards from three women who resided at the Towse Court facility before using them to withdraw cash and by goods online.

The victims were 62, 92 and 94, however the eldest has since died.

Brandish, of Beeching Way, Wallingford, used the women's cards over a six month period ending in October last year.

The 42-year-old was convicted of three counts of fraud by abuse of position on June 2 following a three-and-a-half day trial at Oxford Magistrates' Court.

PC Becky Tanner of Henley Neighbourhood team who investigated this case with PC Matthew Holland, said: "This case involved fraud against vulnerable and elderly victims who relied on carers to help and assist them in their daily tasks.

"One of these carers abused their position by using the victim’s bank cards for their own gain.

"She took no responsibility for her actions and has never shown any remorse or admitted any wrong-doing.

"I am very happy that the right result was achieved at court after what was a long and demanding investigation.

"We work to protect vulnerable members of our community and they have a right to justice. I thank the victims and their families and the witnesses in the case who helped us get that justice."

Brandish is due to be sentenced at Banbury Magistrates' Court on June 27.
