LINES have reopened after an electrical fire near Twyford station stopped all trains from Reading to Maidenhead and caused severe delays on other services this morning.

Delays of up to one hour are expected on services between the two towns.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 08.55am with five fire stations mobilised.

Three of the four tracks are now reported open, with Great Western Railway tweeting that delays of up to 60 minutes were to be expected on the quarter of an hour journey.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Just before 9am today a small electrical fire occurred on a train travelling from Oxford to London Paddington in the area of Ruscombe. The fire was dealt with by staff on board the train and passengers in the affected area were moved to another carriage.

“The Fire Service attended and confirmed the fire had been extinguished. A team of technicians is currently en route to repair the damage and get the train moving again.

“No-one was injured as a result of this incident.”

Passengers have taken to Twitter to air their concerns and grievances.
