A 'DEPLORABLE' man who tried to rob a vulnerable 62-year-old on a bus has been jailed for two years.

Nademe Leigh, of Beecham Road, attempted to remove a bank card from the pocket of his victim while they both sat on a stationary number 15 bus on March 29 this year.

He clocked the attempt and a struggle ensued.

The driver, who was sitting outside of the shelter in Mayfair, Reading, heard the commotion and re-entered the bus, causing Leigh to flee.

The man was not injured and Leigh was later caught by police.

Investigating officer PC Neil Callaway of Reading CID said: “Leigh and the victim have known each other for a couple of years, and Leigh has clearly preyed upon someone he knew to be vulnerable and defenceless.

“This conviction shows that such deplorable actions will not be tolerated.”

The 26 year-old Leigh was convicted and sentenced after pleading guilty at Reading Crown Court on Monday May 9.
