A RAPIST has been convicted for a string of sexual offences on schoolgirls.

Brian Russell invited two girls in to his home in Clevedon Drive, Earley, in August 2014.

The 30-year-old denied two counts of rape and one count of sexual activity with a child, but was convicted by a jury at Reading Crown Court on Monday.

Russell has been remanded in custody until May 13 when he will appear before a crown court judge to be sentenced.

Detective chief inspector Stuart Bosley of Thames Valley Police, said: "I would like to pay tribute to the victims in this case. They showed incredible courage to come forward, report the incident and then wait patiently to give evidence in court about these serious offences.

"This investigation and successful conviction serves as a reminder to victims that Thames Valley Police will deal with any such allegation sensitively, listen and help you, regardless of the circumstances or the time taken to report the offence.

"This case should also serve as a warning to offenders of sexual offences that they will be prosecuted whenever possible and that Thames Valley Police and the Crown Prosecution Service will continue to work closely to achieve justice for victims."

Russell was arrested on October 2 2014 and charged with the offences on May 15 last year.
